A dedication to the back of the head reads, "Jane Gray, obt 12th Feb 1788, aet 28". The date of her death forms an eerie parallel to the "Nine Day Queen": Lady Jane Grey (incidentally, 18th and 19th century sources often spell her surname Gray) who was famously beheaded in the Tower of London on the very same day February 12th 234 years earlier.
